Kathmandu, Aug 10: The forest owned privately by Mankaji Shrestha of Bandipur Rural Municipality-1 of Tanahun has been declared first among the private forests under the National Forest Awards 2026.
Likewise, the forest of Mahendra Bhandari of Miklajung Rural Municipality-8 of Morang came second, and of Ranjit Kumar Singh of Yamunamai Rural Municipality-4 of Rautahat came third. 
Among the public forests, the Chipledhunga Public Forest Group in Phedap Rural Municipality-3 of Tehrathum came first, the Yekle Phoksing Public Forest User Group of Hupsekot Rural Municipality-6 of Nawalpur came second, and the Dundanda Public Forest Group 'A' located in Myagde Rural Municipality-5 of Tanahun came third.
Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, handed over cash and certificates to outstanding individuals and forest user groups at the National Awards and Certificate Distribution Program held at the National Nature Conservation Trust in Kathmandu on Monday, marking the Community Forest Day. 
In the leasehold forest category, Lohandra Kerabari Partnership Forest User Group located in Sundarharaincha Municipality-10 of Morang came first, Madhyabindu in Nawalpur came second and Mayadevi Forest User Group located in Kapilvastu came third. 
Likewise, in the Ganeshman Singh Community Forest National Awards category, Basant Hariyali Community Forest User Group in Letang Municipality-9 of Morang came first. Jalbinayak Community Forest User Group located in Kirtipur Municipality-6 of Kathmandu came second and Shadekot Community Forest User Group located in Pokhara Metropolitan City-25 of Kaski came third. 
Meanwhile, among the forest Rangers, Rajkumar Matara of Division Forest Office, Sindhuli, came first, Sunil Acharya of Lalitpur came second, and Binod Bhujel of Udayapur came third in the Ganesh Bahadur Shahi Conservation National Award category.
