Govt. Spokesperson holds interaction with news editors
Kathmandu, Aug 10: The Spokesperson of the Government and Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, on Monday held discussions with editors of different media outlets on government's news dissemination, education reforms and the government-media relations.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Education and Sports in Singhadurbar, the participating editors viewed that the government's information should be made accessible to the media in a timely and transparent manner.
The activities of the Office of the Prime Minister and other ministries, the government decisions and policy level decisions should be in the reach of the media and there should be an effective information management system of the government to ensure the media access.
Likewise, the editors suggested the minister to hold intensive discussions and solicit feedback before taking policy level decisions on issues of strategic importance.
Spokesperson Pokharel said that the ministry was working to make the government decisions dissemination mechanism further effective, simplified and effective.
He said the performance and activities of the government would be guided by the democratic norms and values since the government was formed through the democratic process and system. "The current government was formed with people's mandate through a democratic process. So the government will have its commitment to democracy," Minister Pokharel added.
Likewise, Minister Pokharel reiterated that the government has prioritized good governance and transparency by considering the daily needs of the people.
The Education Minister clarified that appointment of the university office-bearers was made on the basis of meritocracy and fairness adding that policy reforms were initiated for educational quality enhancement.
Senior journalist and editor of deshsanchar.com Yubaraj Ghimire viewed that the government information should be shared with the media on time and in a transparent manner.
Group editor of Himalayan TV and onlinekhabar.com Umesh Chauhan, Sudeep Shrestha of setopati.com, editor-in-chief of Kantipur Daily, Gokarna Awasthi and the editor of shilapatra.com among other editors were present at the interaction programme.
